OCT - Optical Coherence Tomography

What is OCT in Cardiology ?

Optical Coherence Tomography works like an “optical ultrasound.” Instead of sound waves, it uses light waves to generate extremely detailed images of the coronary arteries.

Compared to Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS), OCT provides higher resolution images, allowing doctors to see small details inside the artery.

Benefits of OCT

✔ Provides extremely detailed images of coronary arteries

✔ Helps detect plaque and artery damage early

✔ Improves accuracy of stent placement

✔ Reduces complications during heart procedures

✔ Helps evaluate stent results after angioplasty
