Biventricular Pacemaker (CRT-P/CRT-D)

Biventricular Pacemaker (CRT-P/CRT-D)

Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT) is an advanced treatment used for patients with heart failure and abnormal heart rhythm. A Biventricular Pacemaker helps both sides of the heart pump in a synchronized way, improving the efficiency of the heart.

There are two main types of CRT devices:

1. CRT-P (Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Pacemaker) – Helps coordinate heartbeats using pacing therapy.

2. CRT-D (Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Defibrillator) – Provides pacing therapy and can also deliver a life-saving shock if a dangerous heart rhythm occurs.

What is a Biventricular Pacemaker?

A Biventricular Pacemaker is a specialized device that sends electrical impulses to both the right and left ventricles of the heart. This helps the heart chambers contract at the same time, improving blood circulation.

This therapy is mainly used for patients with Heart Failure where the heart’s pumping ability is weakened.

Why is CRT Therapy Needed ?

1. Moderate to severe heart failure symptoms

2. Weak heart pumping function (low ejection fraction)

3. Electrical conduction problems such as Bundle Branch Block

4. Shortness of breath and fatigue despite medications

CRT helps improve heart function and reduces symptoms.
