FFR - Fractional Flow Reserve

What is Fractional Flow Reserve ?

Fractional Flow Reserve measures the pressure difference before and after a blockage in the coronary artery.

This helps doctors determine whether the blockage is significantly reducing blood flow to the heart.

The FFR value is usually between 0 and 1.

FFR = 1.0 → Normal blood flow

FFR above 0.80 → Usually no need for stent

FFR below 0.80 → Significant blockage that may require treatment such as angioplasty

When Do Doctors Recommend FFR ?

1. Angiography shows moderate blockage (40–70%)

2. The severity of the blockage is unclear

3. Patients have chest pain or angina

4. There are multiple coronary artery blockages

5. Doctors need to determine the best treatment option
