Bifurcation Stenting

What is a Bifurcation Lesion ?

A bifurcation lesion occurs when plaque buildup blocks the area where one artery splits into two branches. This makes treatment more challenging because both branches need to maintain proper blood flow.

Common locations where bifurcation lesions occur include:

Left main coronary artery

Left anterior descending artery (LAD)

Left circumflex artery (LCX)

When is Bifurcation Stenting Recommended ?

1. A blockage occurs at the branching point of a coronary artery

2. The patient has severe coronary artery disease

3. There is a risk of reduced blood flow to two heart regions

4. The patient experiences chest pain or symptoms of angina

5. Non-invasive treatments are not effective

Benefits of Bifurcation Stenting

✔ Restores proper blood flow in both branches of the artery

✔ Reduces chest pain and heart-related symptoms

✔ Minimally invasive compared to bypass surgery

✔ Helps prevent heart attack

✔ Faster recovery time
